What's this all about then?
Well. I am an aspiring graphic designer in need of some extra funds to help pay my tuition fees so that I can study at Shillington College, London.
I already work in the creative industry but not strictly as a designer. All of my existing design skills are entirely self-taught so in order to take the leap and move into the design industry full-time I need to fill the gaps in my knowledge, and create a professional portfolio of work.
However, undertaking training at a college like Shillington inevitably comes at a large price and with no government support available to me or even the option to take out a career development loan, finding the £9,000 fees (increasing as of April 2016) whilst paying the usual rent and bills is proving a struggle. Plus, I already owe £21,000 in university fees for my undergraduate course in English literature that I did in 2008-2012.
I need to go back to study, but sadly can’t afford it.
Tell me more about Shillington College
Shillington College is everything I have been looking for in a Graphic Design course. I have done my research, and this is where I want to study.
The idea behind the college is that education doesn’t have to take forever. An idea that I can definitely relate to, both in terms of my ability to pick up new skills quickly, and the need to be out of the workplace for as little time as possible. I have already been to university, and sadly cannot justify spending another 3 years studying another subject.
The emphasis at the college is on training employable designers who can confidently take a brief, use programs and meet a tight deadline. Shillington graduates go on to get high quality employment in the design industry and I am really looking forward to being one of them.
So how much money do you need?
I need a total of 9,000 Pounds for my course fees, but don’t panic, I’m not asking that much of you! With a while to go until the course starts in September I can try and save around £5,000 (I’ve already saved £2000) AND as the course is only two days a week I will continue to work part-time in my current job in order to cover my living expenses.
So all I need from you is any contribution you can give to help cover the remaining £2000 I need for my course fees. If just 80 people give me $40 (about £25) I can reach this goal.
What do I get in exchange then? Why should I sponsor you!
- First of all, you get my thanks and gratitude for ever and ever for helping me to make my dream a reality.
- Secondly – you get my promise that every single penny I am kindly given via this page will go directly to Shillington College once this campaign is over. All of it.
- Thirdly, I will make sure that I work as hard as I possibly can, learn as many new skills as I possibly can, and go on to produce the best quality design work I possibly can for the big wide world out there.
That’s all lovely but, really. What are you going to do for me?
Well, depending on how much you give, I also promise to give a little something in return. Have a look at the perks listed on the right hand side of this page to find out what’s on offer.
Anything more I can do to help? Always. This campaign page is basically useless unless it reaches the right people within the deadline so please help me spread the word by following me on Twitter @sarahxef and sharing the IndieGoGo link on Facebook, Tumblr, or any other means of communication going!
