Salute Brewery is a new not for profit business based in North Tyneside. It works in partnership with military charities to provide training and employment opportunities to service leavers who find it difficult to adapt to civilian life. It is looking for support towards start-up costs to create a successful, longstanding social enterprise.
Micro-brewing is a boom industry in the UK, with ten times more microbreweries today than ten years ago (700) and consumption of ‘craft beer’ growing by 14-17 per cent year on year. However, the number of social enterprise breweries can be counted on one hand and Salute will be the first social enterprise brewery supporting military veterans in the UK.
Service leavers will train at the brewery in a practical way, giving them knowledge, experience and confidence to find jobs within brewing or other industrial or manufacturing industries. In time Salute will offer accredited training and as the business grows it will become a sustainable social enterprise, reinvesting all of its profits back into creating opportunities for service leavers.
Service leavers will start their journey with Salute by learning the basics of all grain brewing on our 25l test brew kits, and that's why we're telling you about it. We want you to dig deep and support this venture and help us to purchase the test brew kits, some stock and other bits and pieces. We reckon this will cost about £3,000 in total. Have a look at our rewards as we think we can offer something a bit different!
