A 'not for profit' organisation set up to raise awareness and support around PTSD in emergency services. Trying to help a PSNI officer abandoned by his Force and federation.
About the project
A decorated Police Service of Northern Ireland officer with complex PTSD has been dismissed by his force without Ill health retirement and is unable to work or even function normally. All of the index trauma was suffered whilst in service. He is at times unable to leave his house. This is an ongoing problem in the UK Emergency services where Forces attititudes to Stress trauma is either uncaring and judgemental or at worst ignored.
This officer is now out on his own with a family to provide for and a disabled son. His Federation have refused to pay for legal costs though he has been told he has a good case for tribunal. He has been forced to live on donated food vouchers and is likely to lose his home.
We intend to use this crowdfunding forum to raise £5000 to support this Officer. He wants to at least try to live a normal life.
Safe Horizon was originally set up by the wife of a serving UK Police officer who suffered from PTSD through dealing with trauma at his workplace. The battles they went through as a family have motivated her to write a book ( "Duty of care" by Claire McDowall) and set up a charity.
Safe Horizons has since gained support from many emergency service personnel whom have been through similar situations with their own forces.
