Running first marathon to help raise funds towards replacing the iconic train at the Postman Pat Playpark in Stromness.

I will be running the St Magnus Marathon, Britain's most northerly marathon, on the 2nd July. This will be my first marathon and I have been training hard to make sure I complete the race. For all of the grueling miles that I have run, I figured I was due a reward. And what could be more rewarding than helping to contribute towards replacing the 30-year-old well used and much-loved train at the Postman Pat Playpark? The park has been there for decades and attracts children from all over Orkney and beyond. It is a meeting place for families to come together with their children in a safe and sheltered environment, have an ice cream or a picnic and play to their heart's content.

The train has always been a major feature in the play park located at the Stromness Community Centre. Unfortunately, due to age and decay, it was no longer safe for the kids to play on and had to be removed. The train was originally donated by the Rae family to honour the memory of their daughter, Marren Rae. At the time, a group of mum's running the Stromness Toddler's group came together and painted a beautiful mural in the park, planted trees and flowers, and made the park a place that children have been able to enjoy for decades.

There is a community wide movement, coordinated by the Stromness Toddler group, to raise funds and replace this piece of local history that has been greatly missed. Please help us in our efforts, and help to give me the motivation and inspiration I need to cross that finish line  - just like every mile I run contributes to those final 26.2 miles, every penny donated will assist this great cause that will be enjoyed for decades to come.

Thank you!
