At Roots, we believe that food shouldn't cost the earth. We are committed to delivering beautiful, yummy and affordable food and drinks with friendly, informed and unpretentious service. In everything we do, and in every decision we make, we are motivated and defined by our core values, of Sustainability, Well-being and Community.
Our ingredients come from sustainable sources. We believe in ethical food sourcing; our meat comes from animals that were treated well and had happy, healthy lives; our fish are from stocks at levels that can support fishing; our fruit and vegetables are from our own allotment, as well as local farms who spurn the use of harmful chemicals in their processes. We believe in free-range, fair trade, shopping locally, working with the seasons, environmentally-positive farming, saving water, recycling, reusing and minimising waste. We support local manufacturers and suppliers of craft beer, organic wine and other delicious products.
The well-being of our guests and our colleagues, is critical to everything we do. We believe in the power of food to heal, nourish and strengthen the body and the mind, and we create our dishes and menus with this in mind. We offer a calm, supportive, welcoming and educational working environment for our team, in which development, pride, achievement, positivity and fun are key to every role.
At Roots, we love a bit of community spirit. We work closely with the immediate and wider community, to promote our values, benefitting individuals and organisations. Our Bistro and Deli provides the platform for work-based training for teenagers, disadvantaged adults, and adults with special needs. Offering bespoke development plans to teach professional skills and to inspire our interns (whether in the kitchen, front-of-house, back-of-house, or at the Roots Allotment) we aim to improve employability potential and impart our passion for the industry. Working with local schools and community groups, we shall invite our neighbours to learn more about the importance, affordability and achievability of ethical, environmental and sustainable food growth and preparation, using 'hands-on' teaching tehniques .
Roots Deli and Bistro will be a local hub. Exceedingly family-friendly (including to the family pooch), our guests are as welcome to come in for a coffee and cake as they are for a glass of Prosecco and a wee nibble, for their morning super-smoothie as they are for a three-course meal. We love getting creative when designing (or redesigning) dishes for diners with special dietary requirements. A choice of vegetarian and vegan dishes will feature on our menus as standard, and our dishes for our younger diners will have even the fussiest of fuss-pots licking their lips (and maybe even their plates....). Regular events, including monthly vegan evenings, Sunday roasts, cookery classes and new menu tasting sessions, will follow the seasonal calendar and give everyone an excuse to join in the fun. Our guests can also take a taste of Roots home, with a lovely range of Roots-made and locally-sourced goodies from the Deli counter, or take advantage of our outside catering facilities, for any occasion.
We are seeking your help for the start-up costs of the project, mostly for the lease-purchase for the perfect property, which will allow us to realise our dream in its entirety.
