Room7 is a curatorial collective; 7 curators from different backgrounds brought together by their studies in the West Midlands. With a focus on multidisciplinary practices, we work to explore the limits of the gallery space, and the boundaries between different disciplines. We promote and support artists in the production of new work, as they develop their practice and grow their ideas.
We are a group of students from the University of Birmingham currently studying for a Masters in Art History and Curating. We have been working alongside the established Grand Union gallery and the University of Birmingham to present the free exhibition FLUX, opening on Digbeth First Friday 2nd June 2017 and running until Sunday 11th June 2017.
FLUX presents new work from four carefully selected artists at Centrala Art Gallery, Digbeth, Birmingham in June 2017: Mark Houghton, James Lomax, Anna Parker and Zoe Robertson. The primary aim of the exhibition is to explore the connections between the coming together of different multidisciplinary artworks and the visitors cohabitation of the space. This exhibition invites visitors to experience moving between different art discplines intervening and merging in one space and reflect upon how the art either challenges or adapts to its surroundings.
In order to establish ourselves and our first collaborative exhibition we want to produce a documented catalogue of FLUX. This catalogue will not only benefit us at the start of our professional careers, but also our participating artists and their work. It would be a fulfilling record of our first public exhibition. We also want to sell the published catalogue to visitors at the exhibition.
