The main idea is to put Rock Climbing in Bulgaria firmly on the map, and combine that with a horse trekking and rescue centre.  Basically to repeat the formula that we made successful in Spain with The Orange House being the first port of call for everything climbing and Hoof and Saddle will offer exclusive treks from one day to one week.

For those that do not know us, The Orange House is a climbers hostel based on the Costa Blanca, Spain. It was started 14 years ago by a bunch of friends and has come to be known as "the" place to go to, for information, accommodation, teaching, finding partners and developing new areas to rock climb.

During the spring of 2016 the owners moved lock, stock and 4 horses over to central Bulgaria with an idea to create Orange House no 2.  Orange House number 1 is still running successfully with a great team.

Now we know that Bulgaria will never be another Costa Blanca in terms of just the climbing, however we do believe that it has so much more to offer than is known at the moment. Our aim is to make the climbing areas easy to find, maybe create some miniguides and to develop new crags and routes, both easy and hard to suit everyone.

We plan to develop a dedicated website and to link to many existing places to stay such as Trinity Rocks Farm and nice city hotels.  We would like to use local climbing guides, point out local shops and provide a list of other fun things to do whilst here.

As part of the project we would like to renovate a small cottage that we have on our land. This we can use for accommodation for courses and horse trekking holidays. To allow us to do this we need to build a field shelter and fence off a new area for the horses, at present they use the old ruin.  We have 4 trek horses and have just taken in 2 foals due to terrible treatment and being worked too early!

This is normal practice over here and a sad point that the horse is seen as a mode of transport and not a luxury as we see them in the West.  We are hoping to be able to employ a Bulgarian horse trainer to work with these babies on a regular basis and once rehomed we can then help again with more, working at educating the original owners if at all possible.

We are going to offer very exclusive treks, from one day to a full week. This trekking side is called Hoof and Saddle click the link for the website which is coming soon.

So, two areas to get our teeth into, the climbing and the horses! Thanks for reading about our little project and massive thanks for making a purchase or donation.  Sam and Rich Orange ;o)
