We are raising funds to enable the GRC&W Museum bring 2 Great Eastern Railway 36 foot non-corridor 3rds to Gloucester and to help them restore them to their former condition.
Although the 2 carriages in question are not built by Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company, in 1871 Gloucester RC&W built a set of 18 4 wheel 26 foot 3rd class carriages for the Great Eastern Railway for £215.00 each (approx £9,500 today). These were recieved by the Great Eastern Railway in December 1871.
The Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Museum are trying to raise £2,000 for the transportation of these carriages from their current location to their new home in Gloucester where they will be restored and put on display once the museum has a permanent location.
The plans for these carriages are still being discussed but the plans are to restore them to their former condition as they would have been straight out of the works where they were built.
The Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Museum are also currently in the process of raising £620,000 for the purchase of land and the purchase and erection of a building.
