Refugee Sanctuary Project

Offering sanctuary by providing a safe and secure home to Syrian refugees being resettled here in the UK.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to consider the proposed project below.

Like most, we've been shocked and horrified to see how the Syrian refugee crisis has escalated over the past 18 months. To-date an estimated 11 million people have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety. We just cannot begin to imagine, how dire and desperate the situation must be over there to force so many to undertake such long and treacherous journeys.

Our hearts go out to those families that have lost children and also to those children that have found themselves alone and vulnerable on the road to safety.

Background

To-date the UK has ‘resettled’ 1000 refugees; with the Government committed to take in a total 20,000 refugees and a further 3,000 ‘unaccompanied children’ over the course of this parliament (source).

We've been heartened to read the many stories of UK communities coming together to offer sanctuary or provide provisions for the refugees in camps on our own doorstep (Calais and Dunkirk). This has left us wondering how we could best support.

Proposal

We propose to purchase and renovate a modest property in the North West (Liverpool or Greater Manchester); that would be offered via the Local Authority to provide sanctuary, but more importantly a home for desperate and vulnerable refugees being resettled here in the UK. Furthermore, we intend to donate 25% of any future rental income to charity.
