Elin Jones was raised on a farm in Llanwnnen near Lampeter. After graduating from Cardiff Un iversity with a BSc in Economics, Elin went on to study for an MSc degree in Rural Economics at Aberystwyth University, before working as an Economic Development Officer for the Rural Wales Development Board. She was also a director at Radio Ceredigion and Wes Glei Ltd, a television production company.

Between 1992 and 1999, Elin was a member of Aberystwyth Town Council – she was the town’s youngest mayor during the 1997 – 1998 municipal year.

Ganwyd a magwyd Elin Jones ar fferm yn Llanwnnen ger Llambed. Wedi graddio o Brifysgol Caerdydd gyda BSc mewn Economeg, aeth Elin ymlaen i astudio ar gyfer gradd uwch MSc mewn Economeg Wledig ym Mhrifysgol Aberystwyth. Gweithiodd fel Swyddog Datblygu Economaidd i Fwrdd Datblygu Cymru Wledig, ac hefyd yn gyfarwyddwr Radio Ceredigion a chwmni cynhyrchu teledu Wes Glei Cyf.

Roedd Elin yn aelod o Gyngor Tref Aberystwyth rhwng 1992 a 1999 – hi oedd maer ieuengaf Aberystwyth ym 1997 – 1998.

Yn etholiadau cyntaf y Cynulliad Cenedlaethol ym 1999, etholwyd Elin yn Aelod Cynulliad newydd Ceredigion. Yn ystod y blynyddoedd cynnar, Elin oedd llefarydd Plaid Cymru ar faterion gwledig a datblygu economaidd. Bu Elin hefyd yn Gadeirydd Cenedlaethol y Blaid rhwng 2000 a 2002.

Ar 09 Gorffennaf 2007, sefydlwyd llywodraeth glymblaid 'Cymru'n Un' ac fe benodwyd Elin yn Weinidog Materion Gwledig. Ddwy flynedd yn ddiweddarach, enillodd Elin wobr Aelod Cynulliad y Flwyddyn, ac hefyd gwobr Pencampwr Ffermio Prydain y Farmers Weekly.

Wedi Etholiad Cymreig 2011, penodwyd Elin yn Llefarydd Iechyd ar ran Plaid Cymru.

Ar ol byw yn Aberystwyth am nifer o flynyddoedd mae Elin erbyn hyn wedi ymgartrefu yn Aberaeron ac ymysg ei diddordebau mae cerddoriaeth, ffilmiau a darllen.

 

 

At the first elections to the National Assembly in 1999, Elin was elected as the first Assembly Member for Ceredigion. During the early years, Elin was Plaid Cymru’s spokesperson on rural affairs and economic development. Elin also served as the party’s National Chair between 2000 and 2002.

On 09 July 2007, the 'One Wales' coalition government was formed and Elin was appointed the Minister for Rural Affairs. Two years later, Elin won the Assembly Member of the Year award, and the Farming Weekly’s ‘UK Farming Champion’ award.

Following the 2011 Welsh Elections, Elin was appointed Plaid Cymru’s shadow Health Minister. She is also deputy leader of Plaid Cymru.

Elin now lives in Aberaeron and her key campaigns have been as follows: -

  • Save Bronglais Services
  • Save Aberystwyth Post Office
  • Re-open railway line between Aberystwyth and Carmarthen.
  • Success on reversing the cuts to funding for publishers and authors
