by RAW in WAR in London

Help us to create a new online platform through which we can support women human rights defenders working in war and conflict zones worldwide.

In today’s social media and internet-driven society, in order to raise awareness about our work, RAW in WAR (Reach All Women in War) needs an outstanding online presence. This involves a new website that will feature in-depth information, inspiring videos and photography and social media platform spreading awareness and encouraging support of women human rights defenders who work tirelessly in conflict zones worldwide. Being a charitable organisation, RAW in WAR must raise money to undertake all of its activities, which range from pivotal campaigns to financial support necessary to continue vital work in conflict.

We are raising funds in order for a software developer to design RAW in WAR a new, technologically up-to-date and secure website conducive to our continuing and expanding work.

A new website will provide us with a platform that is necessary to spread the word of the brave and courageous work that women human rights defenders are carrying out IN WAR AND CONFLICT ZONES worldwide. We will be able to keep you, our supporters, better informed on global injustices and the work women are doing to combat them.

RAW in WAR is a charity that provides invaluable support to women working in war torn countries and defending human rights at great personal risk.

RAW in WAR’s current work:

  • The Anna Politkovskaya Award - named in honour of the courageous Russian campaigning journalist, Anna Politkovskaya, who was murdered for refusing to be silenced about the atrocities against civilians in Chechnya. The award is presented annually to a woman human rights defender who, like Anna, works tirelessly to highlight injustices. Previous award winners include Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai from Pakistan, and Vian Dakhil, the only Yazidi MP in Iraq’s Parliament and a 2016 Nobel Peace Prize nominee.
  • Refusing To Be Silenced – an annual event as part of the Women of the World (WOW) Festival of the London’s Southbank Centre. This is a platform through which human rights abuses against women and girls can be discussed, and has included previous Anna Politkovskaya Award winners. We are hoping to expand this forum in the future to make positive policy change.
  • Support the work of women human rights defenders from war and conflict, including the winners of the Anna Politkovskaya Award, who are working in Chechnya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Darfur, Ukraine and Pakistan.

The 2015 Award winner Kholoud Waleed, the co-founder of the underground newspaper ‘Enab Baladi’, which exposes the atrocities that continue to take place on the streets of Syria, and 2014 Award winner Vian Dakhil both took part in our Refusing To Be Silenced event in March 2016 - see our 2016 Refusing To Be Silenced video for an inspirational example of our work CLICK HERE.

Please donate so that we can further support women like Kholoud, Vian and Malala in the best way that we can.
