I am fund raising to cover the minimum donation required by the Project Ten organisation to allow me to travel to Ethiopia and volunteer
About the project
I will be travelling to Ethiopia on the 9th June for 8 weeks to volunteer with one of Project Ten's educational programmes. This includes mobile and street schools and teaching English in a classroom environment, giving opportunities to children who would otherwise not have them.
I chose to participate in this programme having nearly completed my first year of university and truly understanding the benefits of education. Project Ten sets out to harness the energies and passions of young adults from around the world by bringing them together on in-service projects in vulnerable communities around the world and I am delighted to be part of this.
I chose the project in Ethiopia after hearing that it ranks 174/187 countries on UN Human Development Index. The mostly rural population lacks basic social and economic infrastructure such as health and education facilities. According to UNESCO education of women and children is an essential ingredient in leading Sub-Saharan countries out of extreme poverty. This informed my desicion to volunteer in Gondar - one of Ethiopia's poorest cities.
