We aim to deliver more frequent screenings throughout the year to fully engage our audience and provide continuity of access to the shared experience of watching film.

We aim to survey our audience and refine the film offer to their ongoing needs. We would also like to commission film projects that are relevant to the LGBT+ community in Hull and create a competition with a financial reward for the successful applicants.

Huge thanks to everyone who's pledged so far!

The Big Idea...

For a community as diverse as LGBT+, it is well documented that it is commercially not viable for national cinema chains to present pertinent content and screenings at a local level. This project is a subgroup of the Hull LGBT+ Community Pride group that intends to present pride based events in Hull and its environs in the run up to 2017 City of Culture major event.

The Pride in Hull LGBT+ Film Festival will take place from 19th- 23rd September 2014.

The group is a not-for-profit organisation and has a diverse group of passionate individuals as its trustees. The community group has inclusivity at the heart of its ethical policies and hopes to enrich the lives of community members, irrespective of age and gender across the diverse spectrum.

We would like to fund the first of series of annual Film Festivals that cater for the emotional needs of our local LGBT+ community.

We feel this is of major importance to the LGBT+ community because for a community as diverse as LGBT+, we know that it is not commercially viable for national cinema chains to present pertinent content and screenings at a local level.

As a consequences of this the LGBT+ community face a lack of positive role models, experience alienation and invisibility in main stream cinema. Individuals can feel marginalized as they seldom have opportunities to participate in cinema as part of a collective audience; the benefits of a shared emotional experience cannot be underestimated.

The designated venue has been chosen to facilitate a social aspect that complements other LGBT+ leisure activities. We aim to offer an alternative to current bar and club culture which some members of the community may not feel able to engage in. In this way we hope to attract members of the LGBT+ community who feel isolated.

Hull LGBT+ Community Pride is a not-for-profit community group that has a diverse group of passionate individuals as its trustees.

In the six months that we have been established the group has gained support from Kingston upon Hull City Council, The University of Hull and a number of local businesses and organisations.

The group has a commitment to raising funds for LGBT+ activities and has already facilitated several successful events to publicise our work and gain the support of the local community.

Our good intention

The big idea is to create a well-rounded program of film screenings of all formats to enrich the lives of LGBTI+ individuals that live in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. The group is adamant that the full spectrum of diversity is represented in the form of its content.

The big idea is to create a relevant and thought provoking program of film screenings that aim to enrich the lives of LGBT+ individuals that live in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. The festival aims to be fully inclusive and provide easy access to its audience.

The full spectrum of diversity will be represented in its content.

Hull has a great tradition for delivering successful arts and cultural events including; Freedom Festival, Humber Mouth Literature Festival and several music events. Our vision is that the Pride in Hull LGBT+ Film Festival sits alongside these and becomes part of Hull's diverse cultural mix.

Why are we crowdfunding?

The resources of the main group are minimal as the Community Group, as yet, has no official funding stream and is being run by the individuals within the group. 2 small events have been held and raised around £200 which is not sufficient to pay for the venue and licence fees for the Film Festival. The project aims to deliver director/producer Q&A's to fully engage the audience and we require funds to provide board and lodgings and general expenses.

The resources of the main group are minimal as the Community Group, as yet, has no official funding stream.

Core funding for the venue hire has been partly established by a local business and the festival is currently being organised by volunteers within the group.

Additional funding is required for marketing and advertising purposes. The group needs to secure monies to cover the licence fees for the film titles which are being provided by award-winning Peccadillo Pictures. (Any Day Now, Reaching for the Moon, XXY etc.).

The project also aims to deliver director/producer Q&A sessions to fully engage the audience and we shall require funds to provide expenses.

Rewards

Crowdfunders will have free access to the screenings and invites to VIP screenings and sponsor-only events. There will be a funder launch party to acknowledge the participation of those generous enough support as well as acknowledgments in the festival program, should they wish.

Pledge your support and choose from one of the amazing rewards on offer!
