Who are we?
Jaadu is an independent shop in West Dulwich, London. We design and produce clothing and accessories to be made by our partners in Jaipur, India, as well as stocking other independent and socially responsible brands from all over the world.
One of our collections is Present... a range of hand block printed accessories (cosmetics/sponge bags, weekend bags, laptop/glasses cases, quilted dressing gowns, etc). We work closely with Dhananjai and Rachna Singh of Ojjas, a family run company started by Dhananjai's mother, Mrs. Raj Kanwar, a respected and sought after artisan of block printing. You can read more about our journey with Ojjas, and the art of traditional hand block printing here.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Because we are passionate about developing our label Present... Celebrating the skills and traditions of India. Making products in natural fabrics. Working with partners following ethical principles. These are the important qualities that we look for to pass on to our customers. Present... is a modern, stylish range made using traditional skills.
The natural cotton fabric used for printing and producing Present... comes in rolls of 100m, which is a large initial outlay. Working with small independent partners is also more expensive, as they are paid a fair wage. The conditions are clean and safe, unlike many other production centres in India. We have personally visited Ojjas to ensure the working conditions are up to scratch. The craftsmen use traditional methods passed down through generations - no factory printing here!
Due to the interest in Present... we have received via Etsy we would love to develop and expand the brand and extend our customer reach. We believe 'Present...' to be an attractive and versatile range, exclusive due to the small quantities we produce, and wholly ethical in its production. By increasing our offer to our customers, we increase the work opportunities of our partners.
We plan to increase our offer by developing the Present... range to include home furnishings, loungewear and later, a small collection of clothes which combines block print with khadi hand weave cottons. We would love for you to be a part of it!
