As you will see by the VT attached i've had a long and bumpy (if not colourful) journey through life so far. I was fortunate enough to meet a person 17 years ago who became my mentor and helped me turn my life around. What I found when I stepped into the world of legit work was it was a constant struggle, I was totally out of my comfort zone, did not understand the world I was in and what was expected of me and basically without my mentor I would have failed and returned to my criminal life. I set up a training company to help those who were from similar backgrounds to myself with an idea to become their mentor and work with their own interests and skills to help prepare for the world of work. I founded the CIC as the next step, where I can offer work experience , provide a supportive environment to explore ideas of social enterprises, self employment or learning. I am having some success within our 1st year and have a little business Neat and Tidy (gardening and handyman services) generating it's own income to pay good wages to the people working there. I deliver a Positive 4 People programme to raise self esteem/confidence, improve communication and how to make a change. I want to further develop this programme to deliver inside prisons to help prepare people to make a change before release. I am fundraising to cover the costs for me to deliver the programme, and to buy start up equipment for the small enterprises. At the moment we are using old donated IT and secondhand gardening equipment. To have a small development fund to help people set up in their micro businesses will be a god send as no other mainstream lender would entertain ex offenders without a business track record.
