To support and deliver an event that celebrates Play in Plymouth. Whether you are a child, a young person, a parent, carer, grandparent, or someone that works with children and young people this day has always been about you and is for you!
About the project
Playday is a celebration of children's right to play, and a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children's lives.
Playday is a truly national celebration of play - here in Plymouth we have been so fortunate to have been able to join in every year by offering a day of fabulous and free play activities either on the Hoe or in West Hoe park. In recent years the organisation for this amazing day has been delivered by Plymouth Play day events group.
Play providers from across the city come together many giving up their own time to help put on this fabulous day packed with free activities for our local families as well as welcoming our visitors to the region, many of whom come back year after year to join in!
Over the years, activities have included straw bale maze, sumo wrestling, Giant sandpit, Exploring nature, ball pools, craft activities, scrap workshops, go-carts & ride-ons, face-painting, infinity tower, bouncy castle, giant games area, reading corner, Ping!, music and dance, balloon modelling, painting and much, much more.
Activities are free to take part in, and the providers work really hard to make sure that there is something for all ages and abilities, ensuring that all children are able to access them, regardless of their circumstances.
Families are encouraged to bring a picnic and stay for the day.
In past years, we have been very fortunate to receive grant funding to help us cover the cost of hiring in some specialist activities, first aid, publicity, insurance to name but some of the hidden costs! And to make sure that PlayDay in Plymouth is completely free of charge for our super families to take part in but...and here comes a BIG ask, we know that next year some of that funding will no longer be available. So, for the first time we are asking you lovely people to dig deep and see if you can help us to raise enough money to make sure that there will be Plymouth Playday 2016!
Any amount, however small, will help to support this wonderful event!
