My name is Karen Andrea Mathison, a budding (not so young) art student living in Lancashire. I am close to graduating on my BA degree course, majoring in Photography.
I first studied art over 32 years ago, but reluctantly abandoned my studies to concentrate on getting a full time office job as my parents did not see art as a viable career choice.
Fast forward 32 years and I am close to finishing and graduating with a BA in Photography, yet financial disaster has struck and is threatening completion of my final year's project as my husband has now lost his job and I need to exhibit my photography as part of my Evidence of my Professional practice module. My work is varied and covers everything from Pigeon Fancying, Immigration, Portraits to more abstract work.
Pigeon Fancying Examples of work
I have been supporting my studies through self employment as a part time administrative assistant and photography jobs as they come by, but study time has heavily impacted upon my working week, so my earnings have taken a major hit and hence my budget for my photography exhibition.
I am already beginning to sell my work on a small scale, locally and recently had a photograph published in Woman & Home Magazine and I have also previously completed work for Co-op Foods UK, until they cut their photography budget for their marketing campaigns.
I need just £800 to cover the cost of buying Photographic Prints and Frames and the hire of the Gallery space to exhibit my work plus the marketing material.
I need to complete my Exhibition before 7th May 17th, so there isn't a lot of time !
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my campaign story.
