Photographic project of the Homeless World Cup

In October photographers Anthony Epes and Oz Dror are aiming to do a photographic project on the players of the Homeless World Cup - an extremely inspiring project that brings 72 teams of homeless men and women from all over the world to compete in the annual tournament Anthony will be doing a series of environmental portraits of the players using Mexico City as a backdrop. Oz will be focusing on documentary work - capturing the many emotions and experiences of the players; the challenges the players face, the wonders of winning, the impact of being part of a team and of course of the sorrows of losing. Alongside the portraits, we will be collecting stories from the players about how they have arrived at this point, what football means to them and their hopes and aspirations for the future. Anthony and Oz will end up with a collection of 40-50 portraits and a documentary project of around 100 images. This will provide a collection of images for a fantastic exhibition next year. WE'VE INCLUDED JUST A FEW EXAMPLES OF OUR PORTRAITS HERE. CHECK OUT MORE OF ANTHONY'S WORK on anthonyepes.com and OZ on http://photozzy.com/ ABOUT THE REWARDS Please email me if you have any questions about the rewards or about the project! PORTRAITS FOR THE TEAMS: We will create a series of empowering, inspiring and beautiful environmental portraits of many of the teams PUBLICITY FOR HOMELESS WORLD CUP: The organisation will be able to use the photos to promote their work. The exhibition of the project and the press we will do along side will provide a fantastic way to raise awareness of their unique work. BACKGROUND TO THE PROJECT The 2012 London Olympics will leave Great Britain on a high from our country's amazing sporting achievements. If the Olympics are about showcasing the world s best sporting talent, The Homeless World Cup uses the power of sport in another way using football to attract homeless people and offer them the chance to change their lives. For the spectators and those who engage with the project, The Homeless World Cup shows that anyone, from any walk of life, can use football and sport to improve and alter their lives. The Homeless World Cup offers players who are affected by homelessness a once in a lifetime experience. After working with local groups who provide support and training, aspiring footballers in each country follow a series of qualifications ending with a team of eight being chosen to travel to the annual competition. The first Homeless World Cup took place in 2003 and the impact that these yearly games has on the players is transformative, with 70% of players saying they significantly change their lives because of their involvement. The legacy of the Olympics is to inspire a generation to take up sport. One of the themes of this photographic project will be to show how you don t have to aim to be the best in the world in order to be moved by the power of sport. We hope to show how the players who take on the challenge to participate in the Homeless World Cup can inspire us all. WHAT WE WILL USE THE FUNDING FOR: For Anthony and Oz to travel to Mexico City in October Photography equipment rental All accommodation, additional expenses such as food and travel when we are in Mexico City will be covered by ourselves.
