The objective of this crowdfunding is to stage my first play entitled ‘SPIKED’.
It is a thought-provoking story, exploring motherhood and school gate segregation, and is currently programmed for a 2 week run at the Pleasance Theatre in London March/April 2018.
Three years ago, after noticing the prevalent segregation present in schools in London, I asked myself: what is it that drives mothers apart? And what can bridge this divide? These questions resulted in my writing ‘SPIKED’.
SPIKED is a play determined to champion tolerance and inspire mothers, from all walks of life, to stand united.
To address gender imbalance in Theatre, this play is written, directed and designed by women and performed by 3 wonderful actresses in their forties, an age bracket under-represented in Theatre.
This project wishes to prove how similar mothers aspirations are, regardless of social stratification. To create social change and raise awareness around the issue of school gate division, audio testimonials will be compiled post show each day and added to each performance. They will also be broadcast on social media.
I am crowdfunding for 75% of the total cost of the project, alongside my commitment to deliver 10% of the budget’s cost privately and 15% in kind. Substantial private income and a year of unpaid work has already been invested through the R&D phase of the project.
In kind contributions include free rehearsal space through my contact network, the withdrawing of my wage and an award winning costume designer, Claire Finley-Thompson, has agreed to provide expertise free of charge.
How would the money you donate be used?
The bulk of the budget will go towards Artists fees and hiring the Theatre + Duty technician to enable us to deliver a production of the highest standard possible.
Each actor will be paid minimum equity rate (3 weeks rehearsals + 2 week run)
The director’s fee is a one-off agreed fee for the whole run (3 weeks rehearsals + 2 week run + feedback & revisions)
The Pleasance Theatre will push marketing to benefit our venture.
The first 54 crowdfunders will have the opportunity to attend the first night of the show and meet the actors afterwards.
I have worked extensively to bring this project up to date and get it to a stage where it is now ready for stage production. Any donation to lift SPIKED off the ground no matter how small, will be hugely appreciated.
