Its the 12th of November, Storm Abigail has been raging outside all day and as the rain and wind beats off my windows and I put on a jumper, cosy up with a blankey and turn the heating up a wee bit more I can't help feel guilty and think of the people who don't have double glazing and central heating to hide behind..........
As many as 800 people could be sleeping rough in Glasgow this winter
Freezing temperatures, snow, rain. Not enough beds and too many people sleeping rough. When the winter months close in I can't help thinking of those sleeping rough and want to try and help!
What is Pack for life?
This initiative is to provide homeless people with a backpack full of essentials to stay warm, dry and clean.
Warm fleeces, hats, socks and sleeping bags.Waterproofs to stay dry. Hygiene kits toothbrushes, wipes, first aid kits. Eating utensils - bowls, cups, knifes and forks. Food vouchers that can be traded for hot meals at selected cafes across the city. Vouchers for laundrettes to have their clothes and sleeping bags washed and dried.
These things can save lives!
The aim is to provide a pack like this for every person sleeping on the streets this winter
Its not a home, and its not a bed but if we can get a pack like this to every person sleeping rough in Glasgow we can help make things a bit more comfortable for times when there is no alternative but to sleep outside!
