Student led volunteering project that takes entertainment to elderly residents at a nursing home.
About the project
The project aims to bridge the gap between the elderly and student population in Leeds as they they would otherwise rarely have a chance to meet. Many of the residents at the home suffer with dementia, altzheimers, stokes, parkinsons and physical disabilities. Having visual entertainment such as music and dance t is an effective way to get them engaged and enjoying themselves. The project similarly aims to tackle the feelings of loneliness, isolation and boredom that many elderly people feel on a daily basis, by getting them involved in games and talking with new people such as students and other residents within the home. Due to the fact that Outreach is a student led project it has very limited funds, we are therefore trying to raise as much money as possible so that we can pay for transport to get performers to and from the home each week. We will also use the money to provide the home with two larger scale tea party events which will have entertainment as well as tea and cake for all of the residents. The leaders of this project Rhian and Tildy are both students at the University of Leeds and are currently preparing to do a 10 K run to fund-raise for their project, any donations would be greatly appreciated!
