New stretch target
As we have recieved many generous donations and reached our target of £200 we have decied to stretch our target to £350! This extra £150 we want to raise will go to providing Gledhow Carehome with games that help improve dementia, new CD's for the residents to listen to and an extra tea party in May! This means with your donation we will be able to provide the home with three tea parties (one in march, april and may) and also provide new games and CD's as at the moment the home has very limited. As Gledhow carehome is quite a distance away from University we have to pay for societys to get to the home so with this extra amount of money it also means we can invite bigger societys such as Big Band to come and play at the home. We are very grateful for all the donations we have recieved thank you very much your money is going to a great cause! :)
Student led volunteering project that takes entertainment to elderly residents at a nursing home.
About the project
The project aims to bridge the gap between the elderly and student population in Leeds as they they would otherwise rarely have a chance to meet. Many of the residents at the home suffer with dementia, altzheimers, stokes, parkinsons and physical disabilities. Having visual entertainment such as music and dance t is an effective way to get them engaged and enjoying themselves. The project similarly aims to tackle the feelings of loneliness, isolation and boredom that many elderly people feel on a daily basis, by getting them involved in games and talking with new people such as students and other residents within the home. Due to the fact that Outreach is a student led project it has very limited funds, we are therefore trying to raise as much money as possible so that we can pay for transport to get performers to and from the home each week. We will also use the money to provide the home with two larger scale tea party events which will have entertainment as well as tea and cake for all of the residents. The leaders of this project Rhian and Tildy are both students at the University of Leeds and are currently preparing to do a 10 K run to fund-raise for their project, any donations would be greatly appreciated!
