We're raising funds to build a Learning Tree Hut to support our successful Outdoor Learning programme at school.

New stretch target

Thank you, you have been amazing!  We beat our target - the children are really delighted.

But please keep up the support - The children will benefit from every penny you donate.

If we exceed our target, we will use any extra money pledged to:

- Provide a power connection to the Learning Tree Hut (£650)

- Enhance the interior fit-out of the Learning Hut (£350)

Thank you all so much!

Imagine a classroom up in the trees,

with secret viewing platforms over the school playground and pond. A wooden hut hidden away amongst the branches and wildlife but big enough to fit a class of 30, maths lessons and story time would never be the same again.

At St John’s CEC Primary School in Rowlands Castle, Hampshire, our dreams of a Learning Tree Hut in a quiet corner of our playground is so close to reality. We just need a final £3,000 to make it happen.

We are really lucky at our local primary school – we have lots of outdoor space for our children to run around but we have dreams to make it the best outdoor environment for our children to learn and grow. We’ve worked hard over the last few years make it happen through fundraising and hard graft.

Our successful Outdoor Learning Project has seen parts of our playground and field transformed into an exciting learning environment for our children. The children’s ideas and wishes have been at the heart of this. The Learning Tree Hut is the culmination of their dreams - a timber hut built over the top of some large containers, complete with a viewing platform to see wildlife activity around the school pond and grounds. We’re even hoping for an exit slide – what a great way to finish a lesson!

Pupil WorkshopPupil Workshop Group

Our state school attracts pupils from a mixed cohort, with children attending from our local village and one of Europe's largest council estates nearby. We use Outdoor Learning to engage children with the curriculum and achieve higher educational attainment, increased physical activity and environmental education.

The Learning Tree Hut will give us a base for our Outdoor Learning and Forest Schools programme (and the dedicated teacher that leads it) and provide a weather-protected area, to take a class of 30-pupils. There will be windows and binoculars available for viewing.

How can you help us make our Classroom In The Sky a reality?

The learning hut will cost £18,000. We’ve already raised £15,000 and need a final £3000 to get the hut built in 2015. You can help in 2 ways.

1.  Pledge now – Please donate some money to help us reach our final target. You can give as little as £5. Just click on the pledge button on the right.  It’ll take you less than 2 minutes to donate and you’ll earn some lovely rewards in return from the school.

2.  Tell your family, friends and the world and share our dream. Even if you can’t give money, just sharing our story with your own social networks will help spread the word. You never know who might be able to help us out. It’s simple to spread the word, just hit the share buttons underneath the video – a facebook like or a tweet will go a long way.

Your school days may be over but just imagine if you learnt to read in a treehouse. Wouldn’t it make you keener to go to school?
