 New stretch target

We're on a roll! We've just hit our target with time to spare which is amazing, the biggest thank you from the bottom of my bones to everyone who has pledged so far <3 As we're doing so well we've added a stretch target of an extra £500 which will get us a photo and video shoot once we are back on home turf that will help us market the collection further. Can you help?

Beautiful clothes in beautiful fabrics made for a beautiful cause. Made with love, hope and strength for the women who support women.

We're using Crowdfunder to take Daughters to the next stage of production. We currently produce small capsule collections that include dresses, jackets, trousers and tops in beautiful Indian ikats and printed cottons however we are looking to increase our production ability to be able to stock year round.

Daughters takes its inspiration from the vibrant colours, sights and sounds of India. We believe that wearing print and colour shouldn’t be intimidating or difficult and that no blood, sweat or tears should go in to the production of our clothes. Our signature style uses simple shapes in beautiful fabrics that empower the women we dress.                                                                                                                                                                                               We aim to empower both the women who wear and those who make our clothes. Daughters is the proud partner of Maitri India, a wonderful charity that offers vocational training programs to women who have faced gender based violence. In some communities in India women who have been subjected to sexual and physical abuse are ostracized by their communities. We, alongside Maitri, are working towards creating a new community where all women are safe and supported. We aim to employ the women trained by Maitri, offering them a job with purpose that pays a good local wage and helps to educate others about the issues they face. We are all better off when we help one another as we are all, after all, someone’s Daughter.

Our collection of simple separates in handloom ikats are designed to be worn from the office to the pub and onwards. Mix and match as sets or pair with basics to lift your look. So many of the clothes we have bought whilst in India haven’t translated in to our wardrobes at home. They’re too flimsy, too hippy, have too much elephant print on them. Daughters is for the urban gypsies, the stylish wanderers who take the world with them wherever they go.

Maitri is a New Delhi-based developmental humanitarian NGO that is committed to facilitating every individual’s Human Rights, especially the Rights to Identity, Dignity and Respect. Since 2005, Maitri has worked with over 45,000 individuals on the issues of social and health inequities and public health concerns through education, community outreach, networking, and legal advocacy. Maitri's work is organized under two main pillars: Violence Against Women and Migrant Workers. The organization has been addressing the issue of violence against women, running a victim support and victim to survivor program, and promoting dignity and support for abandoned elderly widows in Vrindavan.                                                                                                                                                               In 2017 we partnered with Maitri and are excited to build an income generation program with them. Currently 10% of our profits are donated to their vocational training program however, as stated in our three year plan, we are aiming to employ several of their graduates full time within the next two years, offering them a safe working environment, a good local wage and a strong support network.

Our immediate plan is to get back to India before the end of the year, crack on with Maitri and get production and shipping running smoothly. We are already working with a fabric agent, the lovely Sanyam, who is sourcing the best threads for us from the markets in Delhi. These will be cut to size, washed and made up into our garms. Quality control is top of the list so we will be interviewing for a production assistant whilst we are there to look after things for when we are not. Add to this making a short film of our trip, a photoshoot and a lot of galab jumun and it’s going to be a busy end to the year.

We also need to register the company name and pay for all shipping and import taxes to the UK. Posting from the UK means that your items can be with you in 1 – 3 working days rather than 1 – 3 working weeks.

The minimum amount we need is £2000 to pay for all materials, production and shipping. £3000 will allow us to produce our short film which will help us to raise awareness of the work both we and Maitri are doing, shoot and market the entire collection and to continue to support the upkeep and buying of equipment for the course.

By the end of 2018 we’d like to be selling via our website rather than through Etsy and have that whole process running efficiently. In our second year we aim to be able to employ a minimum of three of the Maitri graduates full time and to also have worked on a collaboration with another brand. By our third year we would like to be able to offer regular employment to five Maitri graduates and to have a small concession in an independent boutique. That would be the dream and we would be ever so grateful if you could help us on our way!

My name is Siona Rose and I am the founder, maker and creator of Daughters. I’m a fashion graduate with nomadic tendencies who has been living in India for the last two years where I have had a wealth of inspiration at my fingertips. Whilst in India I road tested my designs and produced two small collections, both of which have sold well and received positive feedback which has given me the drive to push this forward. Daughters is a combination of the three main places that I have spent my twenties in: Paris with its classic chic style, London’s brave attitude towards dressing and India with its beautifully rich colours and fabric.                                                                                                                                                                                                               Sparked by personal experience, combatting gender based violence is a subject I am incredibly passionate about. I feel that if I am able to turn negatives in to something positive and help create conversations that progress the topic then I have achieved something. Having found Maitri and built a relationship with them all the pieces have slotted into place. Being able to help even just one woman who has been subjected to gender based violence means the world is better and we all move forward. I’m back on British soil now and am ready to bring my bold, beautiful clothing to the UK market.
