As some of you may know we are organising an exhibition/instillation in Norwich on the 26th and 27th of February. This will be a collection of artworks/performances/music that are inspired by the word 'Oppression'. It is a chance for artists from all different walks of life to say something about the terrible oppressions society is limited by.
From the beginning we agreed that all ticket prices would go to Food Banks in Norwich. This means that we need to make some money some other way so that we can fund the different materials etc we will need. We spoke for a while about how we could do this (the notion of 'oppression' cupcakes genuinely came up)
We realised we could raise money whilst also raising awareness of different types of oppression.
Allow me to explain...
We are going to do THREE SPONSORED EVENTS that we believe raise awareness of different oppressions.
1. A 24 HOUR SPONSORED SILENCE
2. A 24 HOUR HUNGER STRIKE
3. A 24 HOUR STAY ON THE STREETS OF NORWICH (as the homeless do, every day.)
The sponsored silence is for those that have been silenced by the oppression they've experienced.
The sponsored hunger strike/ fast for 24 hours is for those that have been so afflicted by oppression they are unable to eat.
The sleep on the streets campaign is for those that are made homeless from the oppression they experience.
By doing this we hope to raise awareness whilst also making the money to fund the exhibition.
We ask that you, the public, donate anything you possibly can so that we are able to fund our exhibition/instillation. The art we are showing is from many artists from many different walks of life, and will be a truly special two evenings.
OFCOURSE, if we have any money left over we will give this to the foodbanks along with the ticket sales.
