Operation Vincent - Somme 100 is a unique story about the last surviving truck that took the British soldiers to the Somme in 1916.
The Shorncliffe Trust is planning to take the 1912 Locomobile truck back to the Somme for the 100th anniversary and drive her along the length of the British and Newfoundland frontline, visiting the memorials along the way as an act of commemoration and respect.
The funding for this project will help fund the costs of this project and create a "pop-up" mobile educational unit which the Trust will be able to use to prior, during and after Operation Vincent. The Truck is currently being restored by its private owners to full working order.
This project is to commemorate the men who drove these trucks in WW1, a memorial to Mr Vincent, who saved her after WW1 and recognition for the family who have dedicated their lives to keeping her running as a living monument for the boys it carried 100 years ago to their fate in the Battle of the Somme 1916.
We are launching the event at Catterick Army Camp in the Spring and have confirmed our base at the Somme for the main event July 1st-3rd 2016.
This an once in a life time event and its focus is the men who drove the trucks, the men who rode in the back and Mr Vincent who saved her for all of us.
