Who are we?
SiMY Community Development works with young people and their families in Townhead, a housing development on the edge of Glasgow's busy city centre. We are committed to travelling with young people on their journey towards adulthood, providing them with friendship, support and opportunities for growth in a fun, positive and nurturing atmosphere. We encourage them to take responsibility for their own wellbeing, the choices they make, and the communities of which they are a part.We work with young people from the ages of 8 to 21, running a range of activities that are developed in discussion with the young people themselves about their needs and interests. These activities include:
- Bike Academy
- Creative Arts
- Cooking/Healthy Eating
- Discussion Groups
- Homework/Tutoring Sessions
- Indoor Climbing
- Community Events
- Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
Where are we?
Glasgow is a vibrant city, attracting people from all over the world. Its businesses, shopping, nightlife, colleges and universities are among the best in the world. SiMY supports a diverse group of young people living in the heart of the city who are full of potential, but who often don't have access to the resources they need to make the most of the opportunities around them. SiMY works to resource the local community by raising funds and creating partnerships which help overcome obstacles such as the increased costs of community facilities and running activities in the city centre. Some of the young people we journey with face additional barriers, especially for those who are "looked after" young people (ie looked after in care or by carers), are new immigrants, young carers, asylum seekers and those who live amidst persistent anti-social behaviour. We aim to provide a safe and encouraging environment where each young person can build their confidence and realise their full potential.
We need your help to create a safe space!
In order to keep our doors open in 2016 we need to raise £10,000 to cover rent costs for our base. Last year, our rent-free building was sold for student housing, and we are currently developing a social enterprise based solution to financing a new safe place in the city centre for young people. A local business generously offered to rent us their spare showroom, but this brings the challenge of additional rental costs. Your donations will help give the cash injection we need to build a sustainable, nurturing home for the young people we work with.
Please help us raise £10,000 to secure the future of SiMY, helping young people to thrive in Glasgow's city centre.
