New stretch target
Thank you so much for all the support! With your generous contributions the £250 has successfuly been raised and the catalogue has gone to print. If you would still like to pre-order a catalogue via Crowdfunder, any overfunding will assist with distrubution, the costs of putting on the exhibitions and give something back to the amazing writers who have contributed their time and skill to the publication.
I'm looking for financial support to print a catalogue that will bring longevity to Oak and Iron, a touring exhibition of work. The original plan was to fund this through Creative Scotland, but alas the cuts to the arts has limited the amount of money available. So here's plan B, to put it into your hands. If you would like to receive a first edition copy from a limited print run of a shiny sleek Oak and Iron's exhibition catalogue, full of images, insights into the works production, and more info about the people and context behind the project, please donate.
About the project
For the past 6 months I have been working towards a body of work to display as a touring exhibition across Scotland. I have collaborated with Fraser Waugh from Edinburgh Cast-Metals and carpenter Chris Scotland to produce a series of sculptures in native hardwoods and recycled metal. Oak and Iron is a study on the impact of molten metal on the form and integrity of wood. The completed sculptures are made from casts taken from the inner cavity of fire-hollowed logs; as hot iron is poured into a slab of oak, the iron and wood reject each other, burning and bending until fusing as one. The end product is ultimately a conversation between these two raw materials. More information found at: www.theoshields.com/oak-and-iron.html
Having completed the sculptures for the show, organised the exhibitions and had fantastic writers contribute essays on the work and context of the show, I would love an opportunity to capture all this in a lasting publication.
