Project aim
A book exploring some of the lesser known archaeology sites in West Penwith, Cornwall, illustrated with my photographs and artwork inspired by these sites.
About the project
I moved to Cornwall in 1992 from Wiltshire, near Stonehenge. Since then I have searched out many of the ancient sites in West Cornwall (of which there are hundreds, if not thousands), while persuing my career as an artist. Now I have combined the two and am creating 'no stone unturned', a small, full colour book illustrated with my own photographs and many artworks inspired by these places.
It is a guide for other like-minded people, whether local or visiting, and is designed to point them towards some of the not so well known corners of this fascinating land. This is a niche market but the addition of artwork makes it a unique piece of literature. Even the page backgrounds have been created by myself, the whole thing being one big artwork representing the cycle of a day, dawn to darkness.
One thing I am including in the book is a good description of how to reach these sites. I have been frustrated in the past by publications which do not do this, leaving you floundering in some muddy scrubland unable to find what you are looking for. Photographs taken by myself are used throughout, so again, you will be sure that what you are looking at is the site you wanted.
I have designed this book totally by myself and am looking forward to sharing it with others. My aim is to produce 100 copies, but more if I am able to raise a higher amount of money than my target. They are quite expensive to produce, plus I had to buy an ISBN which is quite costly.
I will be selling it through small independent shops, plus cafes, local businesses, small museums and visitor centres in the area, and online at my website www.artferret.co.uk Backers pledging over a certain amount will automatically get a signed copy.
My pseudonym 'artferret' will be used as authorship, because it combines my work and my love of finding new places.
