To highlight the issue a band of Green Party members will be walking the 120 miles between these two approved fracking sites, along the ‘No Fracking Way’! We are expecting a Core Group of 7 -10 people to walk the whole route with many more encouraged to join us and attend events and rallies along the way.
We're also raising funds for the Green Party's work - if you could help us with that, it would be hugely appreciated. We don't have multimillionarie hedgefund donors, we rely on the help of people like you.
We will be setting off from Kirby Misperton in North Yorkshire on the Wednesday 8th of March and ending up at the Preston New Road site in Blackpool on Sunday the 12th of March.Day 1 - Kirby Misperton - Brafferton - 29 miles
It’s a five day walk to highlight the dangers of fracking to both our global and local environments. We will be drawing attention to the many alternatives to Fracking that can be used to provide a secure and sustainable energy future.
Alternatives such as green gas, renewable energy, large scale energy efficiency programmes for existing homes and low energy Passivhaus standards for new homes are all options that exist today.
The message we will be giving is that we just need the political will to make them a reality. Therefore we will also be highlighting the need to elect Green Party Councillors in the forthcoming North Yorkshire County Council Election who stand up for communities and against fracking, and who will promote serious action to address climate change. We need funding to help get Greens elected and directly challenge the support given to Fracking by the Conservative led North Yorkshire County Council.
The Green Party’s Energy Spokesperson Andrew Cooper will be leading the Core Group of walkers with key Green Party figures joining him for sections of the route.Learn more about the walk at our website: No Fracking Way
This crowdfunding appeal is to support the Green Party’s campaigning work, particularly against Fracking and also to help elect Green Party Councillors who will stand up for local communities and oppose fracking.
