New stretch target
Our Stretch Target - £1500
What will I use the extra money for?
To pledge more trees to support the NHS Forest projects.
Hello there! This Christmas could you pledge a tree to support the NHS Forest project? Maybe you work in the NHS or have a loved one who has been helped by this wonderful organisation. Perhaps you like the idea of helping people to enjoy a 'natural health service'. Or maybe you've seen the amazing achievements of our NHS Forest sites and would like to support our work.
This would make a great present for friends and family and it's also a great alternative to sending out Christmas cards. If you pledge above a certain amount, you are free to download an e-Christmas card to forward to your family and friends from our website. It's another way to enjoy a greener Christmas!
The NHS Forest is a programme of the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, a charity that engages healthcare professionals and the public on the links between health and the environment and gets them out into the great outdoors. We are always looking for ideas that will get people better quicker. So we set up the NHS Forest project seven years ago to bring nature into the healing mix of what the NHS offers. In recent years there has been a growing body of evidence on the benefits of green space on health and wellbeing and how even just a view of a tree from a window can reduce a patient's recovery time.
We offer sponsored trees to NHS sites as we find tree-planting projects are a great way to engage NHS staff, patients, visitors and the local community. Over 36,000 trees have been planted on more than 150 sites that vary widely from open woodland to urban jungles and include all kinds of healthcare facilities such as mental health units, GP surgeries, large teaching hospitals and ambulance stations.
It has also helped to kick-start other therapeutic projects in the green spaces that surround many NHS healthcare sites. We have linked with inspirational staff, patients, visitors and third sector organisations who have developed community gardens, therapeutic gardens, orchards, allotments, woodland walks and outdoor classrooms for local communities to access and enjoy. We highlight and share all the amazing things they do on our website, in our monthly newsletter and at our annual conference where we hand out NHS Forest Awards for the most innovative ideas, best community project and most inspirational project by a healthcare professional.
