"Bin your line and tackle the problem"
Did you know that monofilament fishing line, lost in the environment is an ingestion and entanglement hazard for wildlife, both marine and terrestrial?
Within just a few weeks of instalation, Newquay Coastal Cleanup has prevented over 500g of fishing line entering the marine environembnt, via our specialist fishing line bins.
We are working hard to elimitae monofilament fishing line and other angling litter in popular angling sites in Newquay, Cornwall, but WE NEED YOUR HELP!! We are a small dedicated team of Marine Zoology students, who are passionate about the marine envrionment and in particular this project.
This crowdfunder has been set up to raise awareness and money for the build, installation and maintainance of angling litter bins, in popular sites in Newqauy, Cornwall. The bins also need weatherproof informative signs and stickers, and educational materials for promoting the bins to the angling community, and other users of the areas.
We have kindly been donated materials which enabled us to build our prototype bin, which has been installed at Towan Headland carpar (as shown below). This area is often littered with angling litter and several bags were removed on the day of installation.
It is our beliefe that installing these bins will help massively reduce harmful litter, protect local widlife and promote responsible angling. Similar projects have seen sucess worldwide, but are yet to be introduced to Cornwall.
Each bin costs approximately £35 to build, plus extra costs for signs, educational material's and maintanance. We are aiming to install a further 6 bins around Newquay, which is why we need your help to raise awareness and donate anything you can afford to help protect our coastal areas.
