Photographs are all in some way about memory – about freezing a moment in time and retaining it – and every photograph instantly becomes an image of a time that has passed. We may keep photographs to remember long forgotten moments, or look at them to learn about a time before we were born, or perhaps use them to reinforce first hand memories so that they remain at the forefront of our minds.
New Memories For Old is an exhibition idea that has being put together by a collective of five BA (Hons) Photography students from the University of Cumbria. The exhibition is to take place in the historic city of Carlisle, for one week commencing 15th April 2013.
The work from each of the photographers is very different but the common thread running through it is the idea of MEMORY. The work relates to various periods of time and will include photography and research relating to the early 20th century, the 1980s and the present day. When brought together the collection will make a varied and interesting show of work.
We have gained support from a local business in lending us a venue, but in order to make this work, and to do justice to the historic rooms which we have been loaned, we need some funds to give this show the professional appearance that we are aiming for. There are no dedicated photographic galleries in Carlisle and for a short time it will give us the opportunity to fill that void and provide something different for local people and visitors to enjoy.
Our consideration is for our visitors, so that they can enjoy a professional looking exhibition. We need funding for fixtures and fittings for the hanging and presentation of the work, materials to clean and paint the space in preparation, publicity materials for the event, etc.
Thank you very much , and we hope you will support us.
Every donation, however small, will help us to achieve the standard for the exhibition that we are aiming for.
