Let's make 'Fairtrade home gift/holistic therapies shop' a reality.
To open a shop and be part of a growing movement of small independent businesses attempting to attract new shoppers and re-energise the high street.
The shop would sell handicrafts from South-East Asia and provide a relaxation zone with massage therapy and healing services. This shop would be a friendly, positive place to visit and shop and can appeal to a mainstream audience as well as creative, alternative and bohemian types looking to find something different and unique.
The retail aspect to the shop would be Fairtrade and support some of the poorest communities in India, Nepal and Bali. The shop would also present a platform and employment opportunities for local craft folk to learn, teach or exhibit products.
Stockton-on-Tees is our home town (Andy & Vanessa). We met as independent traders in Stockton Enterprise Arcade show-casing our new business ideas.
Vanessa showcased 'Loveearth Store' (Fairtrade hippy bohemian design interiors and gifts) and Andy trade-tested 'DeStressExpress' (a user-friendly, clothed, walk-in massage therapy for shoppers).
We spent 2015 trading opposite each other, until we realised how our little businesses, ethics and ideas, compliment and work well together, so much so we can combine our names (Loveearth & DeStressExpress) to form 'DeStressEarth'
Our dream shop would have two sides - healing/massage with home and gift shop.
We care about people and the planet we live in. On our retail side we would use and promote use of sustainable resources and reduced packaging. On the massage therapy side we offer and promote natural remedies and treatments as an alternative to stress and pharmaceuticals.
Whilst we are part of a material and consumer society, we believe business can have a heart at its core. Many of our products are recycled and environmentally friendly and massage therapy is as natural as it comes!!
Ness travelled to India and Nepal (on her own!!) to see the people who make the products and meet suppliers to ensure a fair deal for these lovely crafts.
Andy has been in the massage therapy industry for over twenty years and believes in value, accessibility and quality massage for all.
We have both showcased our stalls/concept at festivals, fares and markets and we are enthused by the positive feedback and reviews from the general public. Please visit our Facebook pages to view more of our story, products and services.
Why we need your help
We are finding it hard to find premises in a central location with low-enough rent to continue our journey. We believe we have a great idea that would benefit many.
It's something new, something different but believe that's what our High Street needs. We think the time is right to get somewhere open.
We would like to open a shop that would put Stockton on the map. This would be the most interesting shop on the High Street and we want to start in our home town Stockton High Street. The shop would sell handicrafts from South East Asia and provide a relaxation zone with massage and healing services. We would be a positive place to come to find good energy resources and a place for creative, alternative and bohemian types to find something different and unique. The shop would be fairtrade and support some of the poorest communities in India, Nepal and Bali. It would also support employment opportunities within the region and bring poeple to the high street to see our specticle new age shop.
It all began in the Enterprise Arcade with Ness and the Loveearthstore (Hippy, Bohemian, Design Interiors, Fair Trade Shop) and Andy with Destress Express (a talented massage Guru Therapist) with 20 years experience in the industry). We came up with an ideas together in our little shops to create Destress Earth. We spent 2015 trading opposite each other, complementing each other and realising how our two businesses would work together. Our dream is to open a shop with two sides. A healing and massage centre with a home and gift shop. Our shop is about helping as many poeple as possible and protecting our planet from further destruction from the consumption of trees, packaging and consumerism. We want to see shops follow us to be more sustainable and have a heart at the core. Many of the products are created from recycled product and are not only environmentally friendly but are natural too.
Why we need your help
We are finding it hard to find a premises in a central location with low enough rent to begin our journey. We have a great idea that would benefit many but we need some start up funds for the first year trading together. I hope you will take a look at our facebook sites to see the work we have been doing over the last year and a half to bring this idea to you. We have been travelling to India and Nepal to see the people who make the products and find the best suppliers that ensure a fair deal is made for these talented crafts. We have been to festivals, fairs and markets to see what you think and test the idea with general public.
