Last month I sat down and applied for a course to train and become qualified as a mentor for young girls. A part funding scholarship was offered and I thought I've got nothing to loose by applying. So I wrote about my life as a child, teenager, adult and now mother. It was an incredible process for me as it became clear what I am a stand for. I want to support and guide girls on their elvolving journey through womanhood. It's a rare moment when a young girl shares a healthy and magical story about body image, menstruation, sexuality and relationships. What if one by one we would could show young girls how to claim their self worth with confidence. To really tune into her inner compass, her deepest truest self. To be able to honour and care for her wonderful changing body. To be able to make good friends and be a good friend.
Without any of the above as a young woman, thirty years on, I can see what a difference it would have made to my life if I could have taken charge of my well being.
I burst into tears when I heard I'd been awarded the partial scholarship. Blessed to read the director's words acknowledging me as a gifted writer. Me little me able to pull a stranger right into my life and see my yearning to create a place for naturance, freedom, becoming and nature connection for girls.
If anyone would like to support me in my desire to create a powerful and empowering mentored girls circle for the girls, all their families, our communities and of course me once I pass my training as a mentor.
