My Fitability is a support service based in Croydon, that aims to make exercise more accessible to people with varying degrees of disability.
Despite having Sickle Cell Anaemia, I've always used exercise and sport to help me feel 'normal'. I started My Fitability in order to encourage both able bodied and disabled people to look after their health by exercising regularly. 80% of all medical conditions can improve with regular exercise.
We've seen dramatic changes in the people we work with, with some wheelchair users now walking up to 20 mins a week. It's inspiring and we want to continue supporting people to be the best versions of themselves.
We currently need funding in order to carry on the work that we are doing in Croydon. Any monies raised will be used to pay for rent for studio and gym hire, equipment and adaptation and repair for sports wheelchairs for the My Fitability Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Dodgeball and Wheelchair Tennis teams. Funding will also be used to continue the My Fitability Mobile Motivation Project and Client group workshops.
My Fitability is making an impact on peoples lives within Croydon by building confidence, self esteem and empowering people of all ages with disabilities. Some of our service users are now looking into careers within the fitness industry and we are now researching into ways we can help them become qualified fitness instructors.
We want to be able to continue the work we are doing in the community and welcome any advice or support you may have.
