Music For Everyone - M4E

To continue to provide a variety of musical experiences to people within our community that have learning or physical disability.

Project aim

To continue to provide a variety of musical experiences to people within our community that have learning or physical disability.

About the project

Music for Everyone – M4E, is a CIC, not for profit, social enterprise company based in our wheelchair accessible China Street Music Studio, Fenton, Stoke on Trent. High up in our objectives is to make access to music inclusive, meaning that people with disability and learning or mental health issues can enjoy making music on the same level as able bodied people.

The project is run by a team of dedicated and passionate people, passionate about music and passionate about helping people to achieve goals that perhaps they thought they could not.

Over the last year we have delivered musical workshops for people with learning and physical disabilities with exciting results for our customers. We have many stories, documented and evidenced, where customers have reached levels of communication during our workshops previously not seen in them. They all have great fun joining in and learning to play a variety of instruments.

We run two types of workshop:

A performance workshop where customers join in with songs that they know, learn to play instruments, dance, sing and anything else that they want to do that makes them happy.

A ‘Make and Play’ workshop where customers assemble a 3 string instrument that we have designed and trademarked, learn to play it and take it home with them. The kits are prepared for us by a local college that ‘provides individualised courses for learners aged 16-25 who have learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

Due to the many complex needs of our customers the customer to staff ratio is 2:1, two customers per staff member which gives a personalised experience.

The many workshops that we have delivered to date have been funded by our directors and their families, a few generous local organisations that have commissioned workshops and activities, and a local college.

We have a waiting list for people and groups that wish to take part in our workshops but our current funding options run out in September 2015.

The amount of money that we are trying to raise will allow us to deliver one performance workshop and one make and play workshop per month for 12 months, and make a lot of disadvantaged people happy.

There are lots of photos and videos of our workshops and events on our Facebook page:
