When my brother was born in 1999, he was very ill and admitted to the Sheffield Children's Hospital. He spent almost 4 months there. I was 8, and my family and I drove every morning and evening from Doncaster to spend time with him. The doctors and nurses in that hospital saved his life and he is now a fit and healthy 16 year old, taller and broader than me (dammit). Now, I want to say thank you to them. And the best way I can think of is to help raise some money to continue the amazing work they do.
So, I’m running my first ever marathon. It’s the Leeds half-marathon, around 13 miles. The longest I’ve ever run until now is 5 miles. There have been countless times when I have said I would run and never have. My fiancé came up with the idea (after hearing about Radio 1’s Gregathalon) that by getting my friends and family involved, and by giving myself an end goal, I’d get there. Plus by running a half marathon, I could raise money for the Children’s Hospital along the way.
Today is 25th February. Signing up was easy. Far easier than the next 10 weeks will be. Now comes the sweat and tears. Lots of tears. I have until 8th May to get ready.
I'm hoping to raise £800 for Sheffield Children's Hospital, I feel like this is a reasonable amount that I could raise at this point but hopefully in the future I will be trying to raise more.
