Mpower People CIC

We are looking to help fund Mpower People CIC running costs so that we can continue to deliver our services to our disabled & older people.

Unfortunately, this project was not successful

Mpower People CIC is a not-for-profit Social Enterprise Community Interest Company. We provide activities which empower individuals towards living healthier, more independent lives, relating to increasing sustainable employment opportunities, enterprise development or personal development.

Michelle Smith founded the company in April 2009 when she identified a need in the Community, to create youth opprotuinities for the young people of Toxteth and Kensington. We were then able to deliver employment support (Michelle worked as a Volunteer as a experienced employment coach to deliver job cafes in the Community) and youth provision, such as Dance workshops and general youth engagement and support.

In November 2011, Michelle was recognised as one of the Future 100 young social enterpreneurs who were changing the face of everyday business and improving commerce's impact on the wider world, from The Future 100 Awards organised by Striding Out, sponsored by Ernst and Young. In May 2013 Michelle was awarded one of the Future 50 young social enterpreneur awards. (Michelle is now too old to win any more "young" awards! Even if she is still young at heart!)

As a SFEDI qualified business advisor Michelle has supported over 130 people from deprived areas to explore enterprising skills and ideas, of these over 50 people started their own businesses between March 2013 and October 2014.

Michelle has been working full time as Project Manager but funding for her wage runs out in April 2017, although she has sourced funding to create jobs for 2 of her disabled volunteers to continue the projects post-April, we need to raise funds to allow Michelle to stay within Mpower People CIC and continue to deliver services for our disabled people and people with learning difficulties. We also work with vulnerable people and older people.
