Based on the original monologue by Lois Wyman, No Escape is adapted for the screen by actress and writer, Alia E. Torrie, and Border Raid Films’ founder and director, Craig McKenna.

Managed by Moving Lights Theatre Company’s founder, Kat Folan, and Chief Executive and Producer, Fiona Teerlink, this short film tells a story of suffering and despair in one of the darkest chapters in human history.

As she sits alone in her dark imprisonment, Irenka relives moments of terror, from the loss of her only remaining family member, to the brutality inflicted by her hateful captors. Encased in fear as her body grows weaker, Irenka comes to an inevitable realisation....

We want to create an authentic and emotionally stirring cinematic visualisation. Bringing together a passionate and inspired crew, it is our intention to remain truthful to the original text and emotional circumstances of the subject.

This collaborative production brings together two young Scottish companies. Founded in 2011 by actress and producer Kat Folan, Moving Lights Theatre Company aims to provide industry professionals and entrants with the opportunity to explore the performing arts in their own way. At the heart of the company is the belief that anyone deserves the opportunity to make a living doing what they love most and the company’s mission is to provide a stepping-stone into the professional arts and entertainment industry. Anyone can join and anyone can be successful. The company’s past successful productions include Blood Brothers (Leith Festival 2011), Moondial (Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2012) and Steel Magnolias (May 2013). No Escape, the company’s film debut, will be presented in collaboration with Border Raid Films, founded earlier this year by Craig McKenna.

Established in 2013, Border Raid Films is a story driven production company with a burning enthusiasm for historically set films. Combining strengths in writing, directing and production design, Border Raid Films intends to marry the passion for compelling story telling with a deep and tangible understanding of period context. Previous writing successes by Craig include Anticipation The 12:40 (Shortlist for Meniscus Film Festival 2008) and Threshold (2012). Working freelance as a production designer, Craig has worked with the llikes of Creative Scotland, Edinburgh College of Art, Factotum films and the online series of Judas Goat (2013).
