Goodnight Mister Tom - a community musical for all ages: Kentisbeare Hall, Oct 30th - Nov 2nd 2013.
A group of Kentisbeare villagers are planning to put on the musical show Goodnight Mister Tom, by Michelle Magorian and Composer Gary Carpenter, in October.
Please would you help us raise funds to make it happen? Just click on one of the PLEDGE boxes on the right, or read on!
It's a powerful and touching World War Two story about a small boy and his friends who are evacuated to Devon. WIll is taken in, reluctantly, by Tom, a gruff older man. There's much more to both man and boy than we see at first and as the characters unfold the story grows towards a gripping and tear-jerking conclusion.
This is a great community musical for our local area! The subject affects all ages and stages, and is set in both London and Devon commnunities. The music is strong and memorable, and the show gives lots of opportunities for adults and children to take part on stage and backstage at different levels.
Nearly sixty adults and children have opted to take part either behind the scenes or singing and acting on stage, and the project is being led by professionals Rachel Vowels (director) and Alan Boxer (MD). Villagers who've never been involved in performances in the village have opted in as well as members of the Kentisbeare Players, VoiceWorx and the Wyndham Singers, and children from our local schools.
The cost of putting on the show with professional director and MD is being met largely by ticket sales and through the company members paying a subscription to take part. However, the cost of hiring the hall and resources for the show, and the cost of royalties are substantial and we are seeking to raise further funds through this crowd funding appeal.
The idea of CROWD FUNDING is that we invite lots of people to give small amounts to raise the funds we need to break even. We’re aiming to raise £2000 - If just 100 people gave just £20 each we'd be there, and if you could give more we'd have some money towards our next project!
JUST A SMALL DONATION WILL HELP!
If you feel this is a valuable project, building, enriching and supporting community life in our locality, then we’d like to invite you to help us raise the remaining funds we need, it will be an investment in our community and will be supporting the development of further performance projects in the village.
To make a donation please click on one of the PLEDGE boxes top right.
WE'D BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU WOULD FORWARD THIS LINK TO OTHERS WHO MIGHT BE INTERESTED TO HELP. THIS ONLY WORKS IF WE CAN FIND A LARGE NUMBER OF SMALL DONATIONS.
