Project aim
The group posts missing or found cats in York and surrounding areas and helps reunite cats with their owners..
About the project
Missing Cats was started as a Facebook page by Bev Dixon, a confirmed cat lover, who noticed lots of cats were reported missing around York and the surrounding areas but there was nowhere for people to really post found cats, or anyone matching them up!
Missing Cats went from strength to strength as cats were re-united with their owners, injured cats taken to vets, cats scanned for microchips and caught when they were living wild. The group has 611 members and counting, and there are so many success stories of cats that have been reunited, and even in the sad cases when cats have been run over, that at least owners have peace of mind knowing what happened to them.
The group has grown and grown and the members are all so committed, but often the cats that have been found need treatment, de-fleaing, feeding, scanning, and looking after until their owners can get to them. For the lost cats there's the cost of printing posters and getting them distributed. Not everyone can afford to pay for these things, or to look after cats why a home is found for them
The group want to be able to buy another microchip scannner, some food and blankets, a couple of crates for cats if they need to be kept overnight (many of the people involved already have many pets themselves and so the cats often have to be isolated) and have a slush fund for monies for food and flea and worming as needed.
The group is not replacing the RSPCA or Cats Protection, who are often pretty full but just providing that extra support on the ground to help get these cats home, or into the shelters when they can.
Please donate what you can. All money will be recorded on the webiste we're setting up, alongside the spend so you can see what money is being spent. More details of this will go on the website shortly.
