What’s the film about?

MINE is a film that explores the complexities of fatherhood in a gay relationship and how biological relation can affect a parent’s connection with a child. It is a contemporary story told in a honest way which will hopefully bring light to and promote a discussion on the issue.

This film is inspired by conversations with gay friends, most of whom have a desire to be a parent but are daunted by both the process and the idea of being a parent to a child which they might not be biologically related to. The question of who fathers the child can be uncomfortable even in the most secure of relationships, and it’s something which there is no rulebook for. Writing a film about a couple who are struggling with this provides a great opportunity to have an open discussion.

We believe that the film will resonate with a wide audience. We plan to distrubute this as a standalone short film that will be played at film festivals and distributed online. The film will also be used as a platform for further development as a feature film.

What’s the money for?

We will be shooting the film in one location in Bow. The location we’ve found is absolutely perfect for the project and will play a huge part in helping to visually demonstrate the character’s relationship.  The required funds will be distributed as follows:

Who will star in the film?

Both of our leads have a wealth of experience in film. They also have fantastic theatre credits which will be integral for our rehearsals. We will be rehearsing with the actors for a few days before the shoot. The rehearsal process will be very collaborative and we will be using it to further develop the script before shooting.
