I am a 22 year old Biomedical science student from a low income background and I have just been accepted to study medicine from September 2016 at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
It has always been my dream to study medicine but I was unsuccessful when I was 18 so I decided to undertake a degree that would increase my chances of being accepted in the hope I could then get onto a graduate entry course where money would be less of an issue. I was not able to get onto any graduate entry courses but was accepted onto an undergraduate one as these are less competitive for graduates. Because I will already have a degree and will be a graduate starting a new undergraduate course I am not entitled to any help from the government paying my fees.
Having finally acheived my dream, the fact that I may be unable to follow through with them for financial reasons would be devastating. I am going to work as much as possible in the months leading up to September as well as during the course, but there is just no way that me and my family will be able to come up with £9,000 every September for the next 4 years (year 5 is paid for by the NHS). Any contribution would be valuable and greatly appreciated.
