Dear family and friends
From the first time I saw the conditions at MOPH, I knew I had to do something. I grew only more determined when allegations of lack of accountability and abuse of funds began to emerge.
Then began the long struggle. For over a year, I fought, with the help of close family and friends, to elect a new board. And finally on 19 December last year, we won.
This new board, of which I'm a member, is committed to making things better. And with your help we can...
Where are we now?
Desperate. Members of the old Board refuse to transfer control of the bank accounts and we can't afford the legal fees to compel them. The Home is penniless.
Last week I dished out the 2 remaining strips of painkillers.
Non-pain killers too are short; the Home even lacks things as basic as blood pressure tabs. We've been relying on what I can afford and what well wishers can give. But it's not enough.
Sadly, this has taken its toll: our eldest resident passed away last week, due in part to lack of medication.
Meanwhile, the Home's three caretakers have not been paid for months. Though they continue to work hard they're about to give up. If they do, the Home will collapse.
What can you do to help?
We are fundraising to cover the medication and staff costs for a 3 month period. This will buy us time to create an alternative bank account, get grant funding and setup projects that will make the Home sustainable.
Most importantly, it will prevent yet another death.
So please, if you can, give.
How much do we need?
There are thirteen residents at the Home.
Costs for the three month period are:
Medication = £190 (£15 x 13 people)
Staff wages = £450 (£150 x 3 staff)
Bank transfer and conversion costs = £20
*Total = £660
(* All receipts and costs of where the money has been spent, will be kept, scanned and uploaded to Google Drive for public scrutiny)
