Our community was fed up with the condition of the alleyways behind our cosy period terraces in Manchester. They were being used as a dumping ground, with overgrown weeds and broken glass covering the cobbles. It was a mess!
After getting local residents onboard, we decided to start a community group to work together to tidy up the alleyways. And what a success! But we don't want to stop there - we want to turn the area into a shared garden space, so we can all enjoy it. This isn't just about making our streets look pretty. It's about bringing the community together to feel proud of where we live. It's about getting to know our neighbours from all walks of life. But most importantly, it's about encouraging us to engage with our surroundings.
This GoFundMe pledge hopes to raise funds for picnic benches, planters, shrubs, bulbs, paint and any neccessary equipment to transform the alleyways into a shared garden space.
The photo is an example of an afternoon spent clearing an alleyway with residents of the road. You can see how much of a difference it makes!
