Hello, my name is Emma Gilbey and I recently gained a place at Arts Educational Schools London to study MA Acting 2015-2016. I auditoned for the course knowing it came with expensive tutition fees and have worked incredibly hard in a number of jobs in and out of the arts community to fund my studying however am stuggling to cover all of the costs.
Before I shamlessly encourage you, the wonderful person who has already had the impetus to click on my page to donate money, I feel its only right I exlpain a bit about myself and what I hope to do with the opportunity Drama School training would offer.
I am a recent Loughborough University English and Drama graduate. Whilst studying I part took in a number of productions, student films, and projects external to my course. Since graduation, like every aspiring artist I have perfected the art of pint pulling in my local Pub whilst by day working as a Support worker for adults with learning difficulties and volunteering at Reading Repertory Theatre. I hope this variety highlights my innate passion for people, challenges and...well...earning money to pay these horrible tuition fees!
I love stories which give a voice to those who might not otherwise have one and highlighting real life issues from the past, present and potentially the future. I recently had the privilege of directing a production of Marat/Sade and would love to be involved in projects similar to Channel 4's recent TV Drama Humans and DV8's production of John performed at the National Theatre due to their analysis of the world we live in. Throughout the past year I have won two national competitions to train with The Royal Shakespeare Company (gained through the video above) and the National Theatre and have consequently been taught by some of the countries best in physical theatre, rhetoric, stage combat, voice and how to respond well to direction. Finally, on a more light hearted note, I simply love making people laugh and would gladly spend my days being the next Julie Walters....if a few inches taller!
Finally, the course I am about to embark on is accredited by Drama UK and provides EXCELLENT training in both the art of acting and the art of staying afloat in this rather terrifying industy. I am sure the training will push me in ways currently unimaginable, but I cannot think of anything else I would want to persue.
If you have read the above and thought 'she sounds like a pretty decent human who will try to make the most of an excellent opportunity she's worked really hard to get but just needs a little help' then I would be unspeakably greatful of any donations you could possibly afford. If on the other hand you think the above is true, but are similarly short of the dreaded 'M' word (money) , simply sharing this page on social media to get it as far out as possible would also be so very appreciated.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this brief, Emma. :)
