LRTT India is a project which will help improve the lives of Indian children. The project involves a group of 20 teachers going to India on a voluntary basis in order to share their knowledge with teachers who haven't had the same opportunities in terms of teacher training as I and many others have had in the UK. We will be involved in the classroom, watching the lessons and offering advice to how the teacher can improve the quality of education they are providing to the children.
What makes this project so special to me is the fact that we will be helping the teachers and therefore making a greater impact on the children than if we turned up in the classroom, taught for a month and then disappeared. The chinese proverb, if you give a man a fish you feed him for a day, if you a teach man to fish you feed him for a lifetime is certainly applicable here and is the driving philosophy behind the project.
The £1800 will cover the costs of travel to and from India and accomodation during the month there. Any extra raised will go to improve the resources available to the school.
