Did you know that once a year giants from a far away land are able pass through into our world? Each New Year’s Eve these giants stomp through the ancient streets of Lostwithiel, on the look-out, as giants always are, for fun and mayhem. Many moons ago these giants were a nasty and violent type, and would terrify the local residents, until some clever folk, fed up with the giants running amok, discovered that they could be tamed with music. So now it is tradition on every New Year's Eve, for a group of merry music-makers to appear at 11:30pm and prepare for the giants return…
We would like to put on FREE workshops for anyone from the Lostwithiel area (or further afield) to come and get involved with this fantastic community celebration. A team of professional artists/makers/workshop facilitators will host 3 workshops where you can help to build and decorate a new Lostwithiel Giant or make your own lantern. These workshops will take place at the Church Rooms, Lostwithiel, on Tuesday 29th Dec (9:00am-1:00pm and 1:30pm-6:00pm) and Wednesday 30th Dec (1:30pm-6pm)
Our aims are:
- To enthuse the community and breath new life into the New Year's Eve procession
- To give people who would like to be involved, but don't have the facilities or materials, the opportunity to do so.
- To share creative skills with the community.
The whole team are working on this for free, but we need some donations to cover the cost of the materials and hiring the space. Could you spare a few pounds to help the giants roam again?
