To extend the home workshop of our young family business and purchase a larger vacuum press bench which will allow us to make larger raised dog bowl holders and triple feeders to access a massive part of the pet retail market.

Project Aim

The main aim is to extend onto our workshop and add another larger vacuum press bench to the two we already use. This will enable us to make larger double dog bowl holders and triple bowl holders for which we get many enquiries each week. This will increase our output from a maximum of 8 products a day to 12.

The History of Lola and Daisy Designs

Lola and I launched our micro family business in early 2013 after I had completed the building of our home-workshop from scratch and with no prior experience.

I also built two vacuum press benches after many hours of online research. This saved me thousands and enabled us begin making and selling our products initially on our own website and then on Etsy, Amazon and a number of independent online retailers. We were then contacted by notonthehighstreet.com and asked to sell our pet products on their site and this really started the ball rolling.

We now handmake a large range of dog bowl holders, iPad holders and log holders which sell here in the UK as well as the US and Europe. Please visit our website or our etsy store to view our extensive range of products which are handmade-to-order to the customers specifications.

We now make a large range of raised pet feeders which I have designed using Formica which provides a tough scratch resistent surface that is easy to clean. If you are able to send us a pledge to help us expand our business then you could own one of these for your best friend!

We have recently launched our smartphone stand and previously our iPad / Tablet stand which is proving popular.

Our triple feeders are proving increasingly popular but we can only make them in a small size with our current vacuum presses. We keep getting asked by dog owners with more than one dog if we can make them in much larger sizes. We will be able to with our new equipment.

Our Modern Log Holders sell well at this time of year and make great presents as something a little different.

How Your Pledges Will Help Us

I built my workspace and tools to what I could afford when I started three years ago. Now that our sales are increasing and our understanding of the pet market has grown we need a larger workshop and a bigger vacuum press. We have learnt that the owners of the biggest dogs require and desire raised dog bowl holders in their home and as yet we have not been able to tap into this part of the market.

The pet market is huge with dog and cat owners willing to spend lots of money on their furry friends, we have done well in the last three years and learnt a lot but now we need target the big dog market and increase our capacity.

Vacuum presses are expensive pieces of kit and a new one in the size I need would be £8K plus! I therefore need  to either source a used one or preferably build a new one using the knowledge I obtained when I built the original two (which are still going strong!).

Finally, if we are lucky enough to exceed our target the extra funds will go towards the purchase of a laser engraver / cutter! This will mean we can 'personalise' our current products and open them up to the 'gift' market which is massive on Etsy and notonthehighstreet.com which we sell through already. I also have a number of prototypes of new products using wood and Formica which are personalised and designed to appeal to the wedding, fathers and mothers day as well as valentines and Christmas markets. We aim to be able to start making these late next year.

I also hope that the extra business that we can attract with our XXLarge products means that I be devote myself to the business full-time and take on a part-time packer which will give me more production time. My gardening business has been keeping us going up to this point during the summer but with personalised gift products we will launch we hope to increase sales during the wedding season.
