My name is Lois Symons, I am 16 years old and currently studying for my A Levels in Camborne, Cornwall.

This July, I will be travelling to Cordoba, Argentina to participate in a human rights volunteering programme.

During my time in Cordoba, I will work alongside people living in poor communities, allowing me to better understand the issues they face in their everyday lives, relating to crime, poverty and xenophobia. I will work with victims of human rights abuse and those in at-risk communities. My tasks will include educating children about social equality, working on projects advocating for homeless people and making young prisoners aware of their basic rights. I will also conduct research on human rights cases.

In Cordoba, I will be staying with a host family and attending daily Spanish lessons, allowing me to be fully immersed in Argentinian culture.

This project will help me to secure a university place and give me valuable experience in an area that I would like to pursue a career in.

Overall, the project costs £2750. Most of the costs have been covered through working part-time, support from my parents and a scholarship from my school.
